No, this isn’t an Onion headline. SpaceX needed a payload for a test launch of its huge Falcon Heavy rocket, so Elon Musk thought that it would be neat to blast one of his cars into space.
“I love the thought of a car driving apparently endlessly through space and perhaps being discovered by an alien race millions of years in the future,” the billionaire entrepreneur and SpaceX founder said in a Twitter post last month.
The launch, which will mark the first time that an automobile has been sent to space (I guess the Lunar Rover doesn’t count), is scheduled for Tuesday morning.

Alien: That’s clearly just a Lotus with a battery

And I’m sure the engineers were secretly like “WTF, did you really have to pick something without rotational symmetry?” as they relucantly measured and loaded ballast bags to pack around the car.

The Falcon Heavy will be able to lift almost 59,000 pounds to GTO , so it might not matter all that much.

Why? Because Elon.

See they could have used a car with bigger production numbers but I guess the Model S and X were too heavy.
Yes, I really badly want a roadster why do you ask.

Overall weight, no problem. It’s how that weight behaves when you put it on the tip of a rocket and start spinning it quickly...

Some say the suit is to protect space from him , and that his helmet is in fact, full of stars. All we know is, he’s not the Stig, but he is the Stig’s astronaut cousin!

I get that, but I wonder if the sheer amount of power would make that less of an issue. Disclaimer: I am not a scientist.
